Kumta is a town and a taluka place in Uttara Kannada district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is a costal town and is about 60 km south of the city of Karwar and 20 km north of Honavar.

Kumta is a sea coast town near Gokarna. During the British era, it was a part of the North Kanara district of Bombay presidency. It had an open roadstead, with a considerable trade, especially in cotton. Carvings in sandalwood is a specialty.
